the way most AS agents 'verify' your elite status is by taking your word for it. Only once have I been asked to show my NW Elite card - whether to get premium seating, to pre-board, or to use an UG cert. it's kind of a nice, informal system. I agree with others, AS agents are pretty darn friendly. If I flew less often to DTW and internationally I'd probably be with them instead of NW.
