It might make sense that NW elites could get AS metal exit rows on NW codeshares, but not on AS-coded AS metal, simply because I've read that AS does not have any way to verify NW elites' status other than by looking at your elite card. And if they can't verify your status, they can't give you exit rows unless they give exit rows to everyone with a Worldperks number.
the way most AS agents 'verify' your elite status is by taking your word for it. Only once have I been asked to show my NW Elite card - whether to get premium seating, to pre-board, or to use an UG cert. it's kind of a nice, informal system. I agree with others, AS agents are pretty darn friendly. If I flew less often to DTW and internationally I'd probably be with them instead of NW.
