NYBanker, as you pointed out, you are a high-end consumer/traveller. ;-)
Many others who have posted in the past have pointed out that they really could not make use of the free companion ticket.

My companion tickets were wasted the last few years. This year, I am bent on making good use of it. Even without it, I found it useful because I relied on the 10K bonus miles to make it to Platinum (yes, they count towards MQM as 10K and I see it in my account).

I havent compared an AMEX Delta Skymiles with a Citibank AA or United Mileage Plus because I am loyal to Delta (no flames please). But, I see that Citibank Mastercard is a better deal for international charges compared to Amex - for those not on expense accounts (or business), this may be of some significance.
