MEL is *shocking* I've not once gotten a bag from there in less than 15 minutes. I'll often walk from a remote gate, stop off at the bathroom and head to the baggage carousell down the other end of the terminal to find they haven't even started the belt yet. I avoid checked baggage for anything under 4 days away, and stay within the baggage restrictions. I even found the US airports better than MEL flying on AS and HP/US.

So I am curious, what do business people do if they can't carry on due to weight issues? Do you have any tricks going into MEL or LHR or is this just part of the 'cost of traveling'?
In the USA I can easily go to 3-4 day business trips with a carry on [weights more than 7kgs, but less than 20kgs or per mfgs specs]. I have tried that here in Australia, but it is effectively impossible.
