themicah, your knowledge on this subject has been much appreciated; and I attribute most of my information to your posts ^ ^
but, of recent, I have been in a number of circumstances where the flight is very full (maybe P1 or P2, F0, and a few assorted Y seats); in THOSE instances, I do NOT believe that the R seats will NEVER become available (FOR EUA) -- and prefer to do the OLCI at hour 24 to get to the top of the list (as a Platinum)
NOW, in all other instances I agree 100%; and I continually tell Silvers (are your listening Silver Elites...) that it is a waste to do OLCI at hour 24 --- as a Silver (in my past life) I can attest to at least 3 situations where continuous abort from OLCI and trying again later GOT ME the upgrade... and I am pretty certain, I would NOT have gotten it at BF; especially since, from what I could often tell, there were numerous people on the list at the airport for BF; and I have to believe that at least 1 or 2 were higher in status than Silver --- but, as we all know, nobody really knows for certain how this all works (exactly).
