It all depends on the strength of the upper level winds. Particularly on the return your headwinds might have been considerably less than normal lower down.

True if there is a very strong headwind at higher altitude. FL250 for a jet SUCKS fuel though. Difference between FL310 and FL350 is not bad..but FL250 is another story.
