There was a big mailing to both MP and Hhonors members in the past month comping *wood gold status. My partner is a general MP and got it, so it went out to a lot of folks. You could probably call and ask them to comp it again, but to be frank, the benefits must be pretty diluted by now. As a *wood gold, I got <upgraded> to a <spectacular> room at the W NY a couple of weeks ago, and frankly it wasn't much different from any other room at that hotel. Years ago, they upgraded me to suites, but now the policy says something like an <upgraded room> not a <room upgrade> and each property decides what that means.

Your best bet on noticing much difference is to stick with one chain and try for platinum.
