I don't think I've jumpseated a single Westbound transatlantic where the captains side hasn't been either papered over or had the window shades drawn.

Airplanes fly on instruments pretty much exclusively at cruise. Its a lot safer to paper over the windows and reduce the glare than it is to let the pilots be blinded by the light.
