Australian "youth" traveling without their parents... usually drunk... but I think the reason for the bad behavior is they are "raised" with this nationalist attitude that "Australia is the best country in the whole world", so they feel they have to remind other tourists everywhere, that they are Australian. It does get tiring after a while. I would add that older Australians are some of the most friendly people you'll meet anywhere.
Indeed. It's quite sad that we've taken the UK Gap Year concept, and turned it into "year off with nonstop drinking at parents' expense". I tend to avoid other Australians overseas, I travel to meet other people, not people who I could meet at the local pub back home.
Recently a NZ girl was telling me that people have taken to hugging her when she travels when she tells them she's not Australian. Yikes.
