Observations flying NW instead of DL
Hi, My name is Dan, and I'm a DeltaHolic, but I'm hoping after my recent experiences, I can kick the Delta Habit (disclaimer: not intended to make fun of anybody that really is dependent)
As I said earlier, it's time to let my wallet do the talking, my feet do the walking, and start flying somebody other than Delta.
Here are some quick observations after the first few segments.
Flew the following itin over the last few days:
buffalo-detroit-louisville-memphis-new orleans-memphis-dallas-memphis-new orleans-houston-detroit-buffalo-detroit-washington
All segments except new orleans-houston were on NW metal.
Gold comp from Delta, so I was upgraded on every segment. This is as a GOLD, not platinum, and I don't have to worry about using up my precious MSU's. One thing I found strange was that we were only offered drinks before taking off about 75% of the time, compared to Delta where we were always offered drinks, even if we were running late (that was used as a reason for one of the missed segments). Found that Northwest tends to do a much better job at turning around the equipment, especially if it was running late to try and make up some time. Hardly ever saw that from a Delta crew. FA's are about the same as Delta - more good crews than average. Only problem with a FA was on the New Orleans - Memphis route, when the FA disappeared to get donuts, or what-ever they call them in New Orleans, and she showed back up over a half hour late. The ground staff in New Orleans was all over her for making them push back late.
DC-9's. Old, but generally clean planes. I much prefer the seating on the Delta 727's, but they're going bye-bye anyway.
RJ85. Very nice to see a FC cabin on a regional jet. Seats were acceptable, and certainly beat the DL CRJ's.
Airbus. Most comfy of the NW seats. Beat just about all DL except for Business Elite.
None of the NW seats were leather
757 (CO Metal). While this wasn't Business First, these were the best seats yet. Actually had very attentive FA's on this.
Overall, a good experienced for a spoiled former Delta Flyer.
Just like going to AA, the first step is to admit we have a problem. I admitted I had a problem, and now I've taken steps to fix it. Just remember Delta, it's only a business decision. I still love you.
