My math says you get 5000 miles for $75 which means 1.5 cpm. Still not bad but nothing like the 0.3 cpm. I guess either choice isn't bad.
It WOULD be justified IFF you could cancel after a while (to play it safe, say 6 months) and get a refund of 1/2 of the annual fee while keeping the miles. I think it has happened to me before (a refund), but I am not sure if/what/when/why that was and if it is indicative of the future... If that works, you get the 5k miles for <1cpm.
