I have had a question burning in my mind for a while about what the pilots do when they drop off a plane for storage, new interiors, paint job, etc.

Does Delta and other airlines wait till they can pick up a plane from the supplier/boneyard before they send them in? I know that most of the locations are not located at airports and need to go to 'other' locations for the paint, interiors, etc. Do the pilots fly in and drive out? Any info out there?

You can see that BA (the one that does the seat/interior revamps) has several locations on the west coast and one in the midwest, so I would assume they go there for revamps.
