Stepping up to the smallest iPod nano was a much better experience as you can easily back up to a previous location and see the elapsed time count on the screen (a big help over the screenless shuffle). Plus the nano benefits from having the same dock connector as the larger iPods. I think the shuffle would be frustrating for heavy audiobook use; I know it was around here.
Did you have problems with audiobooks from audible.com or with your own encodes?
