A pretty good website to read up on Houston restaurants is b4-u-eat.com. I've linked the steak category
here.
Saltgrass (owned by Landry's) is pretty good with numerous locations around town. Although I've never been, I believe Texas Land & Cattle is comparable (maybe a slight step up).
Taste of Texas is pretty popular and is a local institution. It's the type of place where you pick out your steak (they use a numbered metal disk). It's a la carte and I think a little pricey.
I used to like C & H (owned by the Pappas family) but I guess it's now called Pappas Grill (
menu).
What part of town are you staying in? ToT is on the west side (I-10 & the Beltway). Pappas Grill is on the southwest side.
