yes I remember 79 yen to the dollar, it was when I got out of the military and had to move from the military base to a commercial apartment. In Japan you pay a minimum of 4 months rent to move in to a new place, and only one of those counts as rent, so within 3 weeks you are already paying rent AGAIN, so it might as well be 5 months rent. (Off topic: its 1 mo security deposit, 1 month to the housing agency for getting you the place, 1 mo to the owner for "allowing" you to live there, and one month actual rent). That realllllly hurt to come up with 600,000 yen at that yen rate! and that is when my place was only 120,000 yen a month for rent as opposed to my current 220,000 yen/mo rent. this was around July or so of 1995 if my memory is correct.
I only remember my salary in CND $ terms almost doubling....for me that forex event was an extremely positive one ! I wish it would happen again............
