I usually get the second and a half, going on third, degree on going into Canada and it's a bit annoying. Evidently single males on short trips fit some kind of profile that gets them bounced to secondary.
Tell 'em you're on a mileage run? Yeah, right. You could try something like, "Well, the websites say the lap dances are more permissive here especially with the recent-immigrant dancers they wouldn't let into the U.S., and it's good to buy a lot of duty-free booze even if they make you pay the duty on it in the U.S." But often the agent is female.
As for the OP question, the U.S. isn't going to let someone or something it can't control handle security. We have about the same chance of that as a single common currency with Canada and Mexico.
