Nope. It's just because of the food. Tell me you've never been uncomfortable sitting next to someone who has food you'd like when you don't have any? It's the exact reason why it's good manners to wait until everyone has been served before eating.

(I can't believe I'm arguing for good manners, slouch that I am).
