I would suggest being careful about the controls and LCD. If you can find a place where your mom can "play" with one for a bit, that might be best. That way she can see which is the easiest LCD for her to read (Some of the color ones can be busy and might be tough) and which controls are easy to use.

I personally had an iriver, which I returned to get an iPod. I didn't think I would use the radio, and I liked the way the ipod bookmarked audio books. (which is a HUGE plus if she is going to do audiobooks).
