Your sentiments are understandable and shared by many, but it ain't going to happen, and certainly not by fiat. We have become increasingly "disinhibited" over time in this country. You are as likely to have much effect on the general level of coarseness, of which some of the dress is one manifestation, as Canute trying to turn the tide by bailing with a No. 10 can. Be grateful that on board we see few of the vulgar t-shirts and don't hear the unbridled profanity that is so commonplace in many public places. (And now, thanks to that other thread, we know there is a Rule 35 in the CofC. So there are some limits.)

Here's a little thing that bugs me... seeing totally-trashed cabins at the end of a flight. This is at least partly the airline's fault; there are all manner of little things they could do to encourage people to not spread trash all over the floor and seats, including having a trash receptable near the front of the plane as people leave, and making a pleasant (not condescending) announcement that this is the case, adding that it's something UA is doing so you don't have to find a trash can in the airport.

But getting back to matters of dress and such, this isn't about personal freedoms. Nobody is forcing anybody to fly United, and any business, not just airlines, has a right (and, it can be argued, fiscal responsibility) to have policies that promote the image they desire. Customers are free to go elsewhere if there's somebody else who's more in tune with their expectations.
