- LH's, shall we say, somewhat rigid enforcement of rules. If you need to get a BP in E, and you're not there with plenty of time, you will get that that Teutonic equivalent of sangfroid, and a "let me see what alternatives are available".
Without a BOS-MUC boarding card issued in SFO, and any checked bags checked through (probably won't make it anyway), the OP would have next to zero chance of making this connection.

The walk, while short, can be potentially confusing for a first-timer. While I don't pay a lot of attention on the rental car shuttle from terminal C, I can't say that this walk is even lighted, but it should be safe as you'll be walking past the local State Police station.

UA 172 has generally been early the past week, so that's a plus, although it was ~ 15 min. late one day. All it takes is a landing runway change, and you're looking at a 15 min. hold over "Gahdna". The UA 757 uses the second door to deplane at BOS, so while I am always seated in 1B I am far from the first off the plane (usually more like 50th), and being the first off the plane is pretty useless if you don't know where to go (following others who are familiar with the airport can be a plus).

I am overly cautious, and never, ever put myself in a position to potentially miss a once-a-day international flight. Also I never make a connection like this in BOS as I end my travel there on UA from ORD/SFO/LAX, or LH from FRA/MUC (or begin same) so maybe my information is not that relevant?
