I've stayed there for 2 Xmas weeks. First, I'd be shocked if they were anything less than sold out.
Second, the location for a high quality property would be a Cat 5 or 6. I certainly wouldn't call it a "below 4 Points" standard - the Spa is decent, the rooms are average, etc. In the big scheme of points, 10K/night for an adequate Xmas week room right next to the lift at a top ski resort is a fair deal in my book. The only reason we've been there twice is when we went to find a hotel with points (I have plenty with SPG, HH, HY, MR) for that week, there was absolutely nothing else/better.
Charging your room on your card was a mistake. If it was cleared up without a big hassle, I wouldn't get worked up over it. If it cost you $$$ or took more then 2 emails to fix, I would write a letter and request some minor compensation (in addition to makeing you whole financially).
