Many of those militiary veterans seem to not realize that they are no longer in the military, yet they carry their military demeanor to their jobs as screeners with the TSA, barking orders, demanding respect. Sorry, in a civilian job one has to earn respect, one cannot demand it as in the military.
Further, since the post-Vietnam era, anyone in the military has chosen to be there. You were not drafted into the military. You knew what the risks were and where you might be sent and what you might have to do.
Does that demand automatic respect from the public at large? I don't think so.
