Because, for innocent people, it is an inconvenience. This is America.

No, I'm sorry scratch that.. it doesn't mean anything any more. I shouldn't say "this is America", I should say, there are places where people believe that the government should not intrude in people's lives anymore than necessary, believe it or not.

This last line is likely to start a flame war. I can say that it could be polite to tell a passenger that security is sorry for the inconvenience. However, people know the rules and there are signs all over the place about what you cannot bring in your carry on. So if some passenger brings a prohibted item into the CP, we are obligated to apologize WHY?
I'm pretty sure everyone should apologize for their ignorance when they display it. You see, they were checking my bag not because I had something prohibited in it but because the x-ray led them to believe that I had something prohibited in it. The search showed nothing. The screener apologized. Lots of luck getting that to happen here.

You should've seen the obnoxious idiots manning the checkpoint in NY when I left there earlier in the week. They were shouting at passengers, making fun of someone who didn't want to take off his shoes. It was an infuriating display. Give some jack-----s some authority, and corrupt leadership and that is what you get.
