Steamboat Springs - very disappointed - were we expecting too much?
Hi everyone - your thoughts and feedback on our stay would be appreciated. Were we expecting too much??????
My family and I booked 2 POINTS nights at the Sheraton Steamboat (3hrs NW of Denver CO) for the Xmas 2005 weekend
The snow was great, location was ski-in / ski-out but that's where the experience ended
This was only our 2nd major stay as newly annointed Plats so our exectations hadn't been set too high (luckily!). However, after reading thru some great posts in this forum, I've made the following observations:
No recognition of our Plat status at check-in. No room upgrade offer (even after clerk commented that hotel was only 60% full)
PLEASE don't rely on the website. It's very misleading. The standard rooms are below the standard I would expect at an average city 4 Points. The rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment - despite the renovation claims on the website
Rang Plat concierge to check if we were expecting too much. They advised that an upgrade would be quite possible if rooms were available. (we had checked in late in the day too)
Rang reception and were told that ours was the "best available" and that Steamboat doesn't have Preferred Guest floors.
OOPS! she must have been new - go upto a couple of levels and walk thru doors marked "Preferred Guest Floor" and you'll find them! (LOL!)
General service at the hotel was very below average. A request for 2 wine glasses was ignored, as was a request for coffee creamer. (Thanks to the inlobby Starbucks for giving us a cup of creamer - even though they had just closed! VERY friendly staff)
OUR BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT..... I ended up writing directly to the hotel manager after they posted full rack rate charges to my credit card for the 2 nights stay (we were on a points stay!) - It took nearly a week to get it reversed and because it was an Australian credit card I ended up paying $30 in currency conversion fees.
We NEVER received acknowledgement of our letter, or a reply.
We booked using points - 10k per night because it's rated as a CAT4. I wish we had used our hard earned points on a better hotel
Overall, a very disappointing stay. We spent a very valuable 20,000 points but at least the snow was fun
