I think the "papers please" comments (which aren't that frequent) are aimed more at the DHS/TSA and general administration policy and fallacy that ID=security; and only at those individual screeners who make a BFD of it. Most don't and it's usually the airport/airline checkers who do.

I have and will continue to refer to screeners who routinely employ bullying as "thugs". It's the least offensive term of several I could apply. I don't reacll the "jackbooted" epithet being used with any regularity here.

No-one questions the dedication of military personnel. Law enforcement officers are a different matter depending on one's own prior experiences. Regardless, former occupations are not relevant to what you do as a TSA screener; it ain't the same job.
