For reasons that only make sense to AC, Row 12 on A320 is only assigned at the airport whereas row 12 on a Embraer, 767 or Airbus widebody can be booked in advance by an E or SE (and likely a *Gold too).
It might have to do with those weird airbag thingies that AC has installed on some of the narrow body Airbuses - they likely don't want kids seated there.
