Hilton Fort Worth report 04/21/2006

Preface: In town for a dinner meeting and the DFW DO.

Rate: AAA rate of $134.

Transportation: I used the link provided by techgirl offering shuttle service from DFW to the Hotel. I think it was $24 RT versus cab of $50 each way.

Check-in: This was not pleasant. The Hotel is busy with the happening this weekend. The Hotel did not have my room type available. They did offer me a corner room on 5 but with regret that had lots of noise from the street. I was then offered a double bedded room on 9 which is the smallest on the floor plan. The really BAD part is that this Hotel does not have a Lounge at this time. I called the Hotel about 10 days ago and was told it did. I checked online and they are still selling Club rooms. If you listen to the messages on music hold they talk about Club rooms. The Lounge is completed but now it needs a new air conditioning unit so a hole has been cut in the ceiling. No LOUNGE. I was offered a Gold continental voucher which I had converted to appetizer voucher.

Perks: None as far as I am concerned.

Room: This Hotel used to be a Radisson. The room has new furniture but the place is just plain boring. The walls in the room are sprayed sheet rock with a flat egg color. No personality at all. I thought I would try and take it easy before my dinner and watch a movie. The Hotel does not have any pay per view movies/channels. Just a select number of channels. When I called down I was told they have the Family Channel. I asked if there were any other Hiltons in Fort Worth and was told not downtown.

Communications: Wired HSIA is $9.95 for 24 hours. Bring your own line. Not provided.

Location: On the fring of downtown near the convention center.

Closing: I know this Hotel is a convert and it shows. The Hilton line is a so so line comparable to Sheraton. When they get a new property they can at least make it like a Hilton and not any less. No Club which is advertised and sold. No video on demand and no recognition of Diamond status is bad. This property is a pass at this time. If I had know what I know now I would have stayed at the Grand Hyatt at DFW and taken the same shuttle in for dinner before walking over to the Flying Saucer. A disappointment.
