To defend Garuda... I have flown them many times and always found them to be excellent in business class. Their service has certainly improved over recent years. Their planes are new(ish) - A330s have a 55' pitch in Biz class and a fairly good recline. Their 747s have a 60' pitch in business class and are the old first class (sleeper) seats with a 160 degree recline. Pretty good for the short flights they do (6-8 hours).

Service is the big winner - plus they have their new lounge in Denpasar which is supposed to be good.

The only thing to be aware of is that until 2004 at least, (and it looks like this might have changed according to airlinemeals.net) the meal service out of Bali to Australia used to be a tiny snack as departures are around midnight. You need to eat before you board. Breakfast was served about 90 mins out and was the full deal. (According to airlinemeals.net - in May 2005 a poster shows a small hot meal after departure then a very small breakfast.) Either way you get one small snack and one 'meal', but the flight time is only around 5hrs 40min.
