I did try a few travel agents in B.C., received the same reply as you.
One of the t.a's was even recommended by OZ office in the U.S. but for some reason couldn't get the same fare I got.
I agree w/YVRCNX....I've done this trip several times, always booked w/Expedia Corporate (which has a much better search engine than plain vanilla Expedia). OZ tickets often still need to be on paper, but they will deliver them anywhere in USA/Canada for USD $20. C fares ex/BKK are about $920 USD to SEA/SFO/LAX/SAN and about $850 USD to YVR (plus taxes/fees of course.)
