Actually, my read of lots of posts suggests:
- Continental sometimes WILL comp highest level
- Regular channels at other airlines won't get highest level comp'd, but really lucrative passengers can get comp'd if they reach someone in authority, usually via sales division.

Airlines won't help each other steal their best customers -- so unlikely that they'll verify the veracity of your statement/card.
