Clarification needed on Rule 240
If you request to be rerouted on another carrier under Rule 240 because of mechanical delay to your original flight, does the original airline have the responsibility of checking the schedules of other airlines or do you have to figure out what new flight you want yourself? Should the original airline confirm a reservation for you on the new airline or do you have to do that yourself. I was recently told by Hawaiian Airlines that I had to go to the United ticket counter and get them to take the Hawaiian ticket and find a reservation for me. I thought that Hawaiian had to endorse the ticket over to them. I eventually got Hawaiian to handle all the logistics but only after much discussion.
