Land-of-Miles - I don't know your wife's nationality vis-a-vis an Egyptian tourist visa (if she's a Brit no problem, if she's a Thai not so sure) and I also don't know if it is absolutely essential that you have ZRH stopovers on your proposed LX CAI-ZRH-BKK routing, but SQ has CAI-DXB-SIN-BKK in First for LE19323 including taxes (approx GBP2100 at this morning's exchange rate). This is available directly from their web-site.
There are a number of posts (particularly in connection with RTW fares) that mention one particular 'foreigner friendly' travel agent in Cairo; my employer also has their own 'embedded' travel agent - if you need details of either let me know here.
My other half is indeed Thai with long stay UK Visa. This allows her visa free access to Switzerland but not anywhere else in EU. CAI struck me as being a good place for a weekend away (Since neither of us has ever been, with good BA miles availability). Routing back through Zurich ensures we can return to London (during our ZRH stopover) then start our proper longhaul trip ex ZRH. This seems far more sensible than starting the trip in CAI proper (and yields a shedload more *A miles into the bargain).
Overall the intinerary I propose seems fairly civilised and at a good price, and I am led to belive that LX offer a pretty good product in F. Compared with the pretty poor offerings of most *A carriers ex EU to BKK in J.
I would be very grateful for more details of the agencies you refer to. Please feel free to PM me.
