Nasty tasting ice is now everywhere

I first encountered skunk ice on flights out of Denver early last year. Now, it seems that about 50% of the time, on flights out of IAD/DEN/ORD/SFO, the ice that is served has a distinct chemical taste. I drink mostly water and have a good sense of smell and a sharp palate, and initially I thought it was the dry ice in the carts. Has anyone else noticed this, and does anyone know what the cause is? If it is the dry ice, is it now noticible because of reduced cleaning, or is someone saving a half a cent per bag of ice by using more permiable plastic bags to keep ice in?
