I would like to start a thread on inventory challenges for discussion. I have been researching fares vs. inventory for a long time and thought some of the brilliant minds here might have some insight.
Classic example:
Last night CO filed a 14-day L fare from Phoenix - Bangor at .03/mile with proper routing much better, good through 14-June.
There is 0 inventory at the moment on every valid outbound day. Now in theory when you file a fare you should have to provide a bit of inventory (I am sure I have read this is some arcane DOT document) but in practice this happens more than the odd time. Of course in theory querying this afternoon might change things.
Since I am relatively new to this forum I was wondering if any have encountered this sort of situation.
If this has been covered in a previous thread then please merge it, I couldn't find one.
One of our constant goals and challenges has been to not show fares that are unbookable which occurs because of faulty fare rules ( for example a great fare that says non-stop only, but the airline has no non-stops etc) and inventory. We continue to strive for this lofty goal

.
