One of the thing that I find on this board is that it seems for some people AC can't do no wrong. And that's the unfortunate thing.
I don't think it is a matter that AC can't do no wrong. For many Canadians, AC simply works out to be the best airline, and we have to rely on it, whether we like it or not. My fiance, who lives in SFO, visits me once a month in YYZ for the past 6 years. There are many airlines that flies SFO-YYZ, but the most convenient then and still is Air Canada. He has no choice. Even UA, which is based in SFO, codeshares Air Canada flights. He chose AP because UA's doesn't give him the UG he needs for SFO-YYZ. Every year we look into the various airline program and always come back to AC, and he is a US resident! So imagine someone that flies within Canada all the time? There isn't much choice. This is AC's business!
Personally, the last few trips I made to China, I found AC's Executive First service much better than Cathay's. UA's was horrible, ANA was good. Cathay's crew was terrible, and my feet are constantly digging into the bottom. So which airline will I choose to fly? AC, because I am based in YYZ, and I need to put together my points into one FFP! (Although I just read about PPS, I am thinking of giving them a try next time)
BTW, my fiance always thought Air Canada's service is much better than the American airlines, he actually prefers AC.
He just need to learn how to take more advantage of AP and his status, he should read this forum
