Quite sensible phrasing - deals well with whether the staff might be sceptical about which had the higher FB 'integrity' - the plastic or the mag stripe. (They can swipe the card at their computer as well, I think, if they want to check, but the card might show 'expired'.) But it might become more difficult to 'verify' PE status if the 03/2007 wears off as well.
The comment did not seem to suggest the problem had come up before - yet your journey was already 11 days into April. I wonder if this suggests the PE facility is not much used?
'Hopefully' (while not wishing for inconvenience for others), if this happens a couple more times, the staff will become accustomed to the problem, and there will be little, if any, difficulty for anyone.
Are you going to ask for a new card?
