I've posted specific room numbers in some of my posts (e.g., London Hilton, Beverly Hilton, etc.) where I assume there would be more interest in specific rooms versus the HGI at the Cleveland airport!
Focusing on noting which are the "good" rooms at popular hotels like this makes sense to me, and I've always appreciated anyone's comments about which are the better floors/better rooms/etc. to ask for when I make a reservation. I find this to be extremely helpful when visiting hotels in new places.
In some hotels I always make specific room requests, although my experience of obtaining these particular rooms is mixed. For online reservations I've noted which room I wanted but they even specify that they may not read this info until my arrival. Nonetheless, whenever I've asked for specific rooms the front-desk staff will normally check to see if it is available and I normally get it (as a diamond). It doesn't always get me on the 8th floor at the Beverly Hilton, but it may get me a specific cabana room.
Perhaps just a "room map" thread with the "better" rooms listed might be helpful.
