YUL-LAX distance is 2500 miles. YUL-LHR is 3200 miles. The extra 700 miles occurs at high altitude where the Costs to cruise are a lot less than average. There is always a better deal on the longer runs because its lower cost to cruise.
Of course, add the $60 each way fuel surcharge to the Europe ticket, plus their own usurous entry fees, and LAX is a lot cheaper.
