It appears that the AA systems do not have the logic built in to distinguish between a QF 4xxx flight and a QF 1xx flight. It's all QF to the AAdvantage system, and as such was a qualifying OW earning flight.
Carry this logic over to JQ flights the OP is asking about...I maintain that if they are coded as QFXXX then you'll earn the AA miles. If it's coded as JQ then no miles (unless AA sets up code shares of their own with JQ).
