there are plenty of reasons to keep the Gatwick express but politics often gets in the way and this is the case here.

In a sane world the GEX would remain just as it is today. But some jobs worth rail planner has decided its not fair on everyone else and wants to claim his 15 mins of fame. Stupid, but there we are.

IMHO, there is no big demand for a transfer rail service and if it were to run, it couldn't go via the HEX route as there would be no paths available.

Probably the best way would be Gatwick-redhill-then via Ash and up to Staines and in that way on the yet to be built link into T5. This route is quiet but half of it is not electrified and there is no spur to prevent reversing at Redhill (ie no chance of it ever happening!!)
