While a day trip from HKG to SIN is possible, it is a tough trip in a
day... The flight time is scheduled at 3:45 or so, and getting to the
airport at HKG takes a bit of time itself.

If you want to make a day of it, there are several low-cost
carriers that hub in SIN - I believe that either Tiger Airways or
JetStarAsia may do a run between the two cities. I believe
that AirAsia serves Macau, which is a ferry ride from HKG...
not a bad option if you have some time, but a bit long on a day
trip.

There is a budget travel forum here on FlyerTalk that has
reference sites for low-cost carriers - you might want to check
that out.
