My suggestion is to get the award ticket to CMB (South Asia) as opposed to MLE (Central Asia).
I would then suggest you route NYC-BKK/SIN-CMB using TG/SQ. For CMB-MLE, buy a cheap ticket on EK or UL (I've seen them for ~180 R/T). If you take EK, you could even earn UA RDMs.
