It depends on which other carriers you mean. I flew KQ and thought it was absolutely brilliant - but of course you would have to change in Nairobi, which will add a couple of hours on to the journey.

I personally took the ferry from Dar to Stone Town and loved the journey, but it's not for everyone. If the travellers aren't going to be spending any time in Dar, then the best bet is probably to fly.

Going from Zanzibar to Arusha, the best bet is probably to fly. I flew with Precision Air and it was just fine. It also took about 1:15 - which is much, much quicker than overland.
