I found the taxis to be very inexpensive (but thats from a New York perspective, LOL). We went from Bur Dubai to Ibn Battuta Mall and it was only like $15 max and that was at least a 30 min ride with no traffic. We took taxis everwhere (stayed in Bur Dubai though). As for the must sees: Gold Souk, Karama Souk, Burj Al Arab, Emirates Towers, Medinat Resort (and Souk), and for more shopping Mall of the Emirates (with Ski Dubai...even if you don't ski you have to see this), Bur Jurman Center, and Wafi City. Can you tell what I did most on my trip...hmmm...shopaholic . There were amazing sales when I was there end of March.

I was only there four days and found that taking the double decker bus tour which is hop on hop off was really good to get acquainted with the lay of the land (Catch it at the City Center Mall). It has two routes a city and beach and you can do both in an afternoon. Tickets were valid for 24 hours and also included free admission to the Dubai Museum.
