It was more of conversations to determine which hotels were available for me to reserve. Since there was virtually no availability at equivalent hotels in the area it didn't look great.
Airline Tickets:
First off the El Tamarindo did refund my advance purchase airfare in full by cutting a check.
Hotel options:
Option 1
The first option presented was to assist me with making a reservation at the Cat 4 El Carayes for 4 of my planned 6 nights. The dates were cut down because of lack of availability. I didn't go for this offer for various reasons:
1) Move from Cat 5 secluded hotel to Cat 4 larger hotel
2) Reduce length of Honeymoon
3) Further travel from Manzanillo Airport
Next they offered to reserve a room in my name at the Le Merridean Tahiti, but it didn't get good reviews and the flights were long in coach.
Then we looked at Bora Bora Nui, Princeville-Hawaii and there was no availability there either.
The last option before we settled on a solution, was to reserve a room in my name at the Cala Di Volpe during April 30th - May 6th, but the following reasons prevented us from going with that option:
1) first class tickets were like 5k and I would have to cover 2
2) Coach flight was 17 hours with 3 connections
3) Temperature was not conducive to beach activities 60-low 70s this time of year
4) I have a plan to go there next year at the end of a trip to Europe during the warmer time of year.
I think it is prudent to wait until others resolve their respective situations before I post my alternative.
But I'll say I don't think I settled for a "down grade" in honeymoons I think I found a very close alternative. But we were certainly looking forward to the El Tamarindo.
And anyway if they hadn't come up with a viable alternative I would have simply walked away from SPG. But they did come through I have to say, corporate customer service and William were on the ball.
