My mate and I want to go out to LA & San Fran to see our mates for a week. I had a flight with US Air @ £300 last week. The same flight is now £400. (Also, by flying US we get a free stop over @ Philly, which is good, because we get to see another friend there).
Now, if I go to expedia, type in the exact flight details, United is coming in @ £317. What do I do? My friend does not care about air miles airlines or any of that. He just wants to get from A to B. Me, I want to fly US because I want to be loyal, get the first class upgrade (although reading recent threads this may not be the case)
Also, to get from LAX to SFO on UA is coming in at around $200. To fly into Oakland with Southwest is only $69. I’m thinking of flying Southwest for this flight as it is only an hour flight and from Oakland airport you can take the Bart right into town. Any other ideas on this?
So what do you all think? Stay loyal and throw away about £100? Is that just silly? After all, that’s £100 that could be spend on beer!!!
Thoughts welcomed. ^
Book United and Southwest. You'll still get miles, plus you'll fly E+ and save a lot of money. More comfortable flight + miles and bonuses + less money seems like a winning combo to me.
Fly Southwest between LAX and OAK. It's a very short flight, and the extra perks of flying UA won't really be noticeable. Plus it's much cheaper. I'm not a big fan of WN, but for a $130 price difference, you'll find me waiting in the line with the rest of the unwashed masses. You may want to check UA's prices for LAX-OAK (not LAX-SFO), as they sometimes compete with WN and match their fares on this route. Be warned, UA only operates regional jets on this route.
