Just comparing my experience with row 17 Raffles class seat and Row 15 UA Business seat, unfortunately, the American carrier still has a long way to go to be able to match SQ's product. Yes, UA provide satisfactory service and seat, but the Spacebed's modernity and comfort alone just blows away the competition. Maybe, and hopefully, the proposed upgrade of UA premium cabin seats will finally decrease the competitive gap between the two.

As have been noted in these forums, the best business class seat for both carriers, in my opinion, could be experienced in the upper deck. The ambience and privacy really contribute to quite enjoyable flights.
