Federal Aviation Regulations Sec. 121.585 - Exit seating

No mention regarding pregnant women.

From within DL, I found a bulletin that is effective 31OCT02.
The following summary of the Exit Seat criteria can be used as an example of how an agent should advise the passenger of the criteria for sitting in an exit seat:

“Federal regulation requires that all passengers seated in exit seat meet the
following criteria. They must be capable of understanding and speaking English, locating and operating an exit, and directing others to it. They must be able to lift 31-52 lbs. and willing if called upon to accomplish these tasks and do so quickly. Children under 15 years of age, people who require a seat belt extension and people who have conditions that might cause them harm if called upon to open an exit, may not sit in an exit seat.”

Looks like DL's policy was only changed to exclude passengers who require the use of a seat belt extension from being allowed to sit in an exit seat due to the hazards of entanglement. Also, DL's Emergency Exit Seating Cards will be made readily available at all public contact positions by 10/31/2002.
