3. Most airline passengers really don't have any idea how much it actually costs to provide these "extras." A simple example: airline food. People look at the sad "meal" tray and think, Sheesh, there is what, may be $5-$10 of food here; I could make a better airline meal for that price. But what they don't understand is that it is not really the cost of the food items themselves that makes it expensive to provide the service. I read somewhere that a coke is handled 10 times before you drink it on a A/C. I don't know if that is accurate but even if it is 5 times that gives you an idea how expensive it can get.
