Rather than spending $350 on a VOIP phone, why not just get an unlocked GSM phone for about $100-$150 and use a local sim card?
In the way in which I use VOIP, there will be no additional cost besides the handset charge for me to get this added on in places where roaming charges soak me AND where I can find a wireless network -- which is a lot of places where my roaming charges are $.60-$2.00/minute unless going for a local SIM. (The reason I don't like the local SIM a lot of the times is the swapping out required and the call/message forwarding issues -- or voicemail chasing issues -- that come with going for the local SIM/number option.)

I'm still looking forward to a robust single device that allows me to have a pocket-size Wi-Fi VOIP-enabled phone that can be readily switched to (or "simultaneously" handle) GSM calls associated with the inserted sim card. In the meantime this will save me enough in roaming charges within two months to justify its expense.

Kanebear, thank you for bringing this up here. ^^
