So what if DL isn't the preferred carrier for GA. Delta was the big winner when the U.S. General Services Administration announced (back in Aug '02) its city-pair airline contracts for travel by federal employees in fiscal year 2003. DL was awarded 1,199 markets, worth an estimated $257 million in ticket sales, first among U.S. major airlines. The new government contract fares will go into effect on Oct. 1 and will run through Sept. 30, 2003. American Airlines was second with 1,130 markets, worth an estimated $252.9 million. United Airlines, US Airways and Northwest Airlines rounded out the top five in terms of the estimated value of the contracts.
